Law enforcement investigates house fire as arson

Local News

UTICA, Ky. (WEHT) – A Daviess County woman is describing the moment her house caught fire.

The sheriff’s office said the fire started Wednesday night around 9:45 on Highway 764 near Utica.

Law enforcement deemed the fire suspicious and the case is being investigated as an arson.

Rose Hagan said she could smell the smoke as she went to bed.

“I had just gotten into bed with my dog, and my husband was up watching a little TV. He said, ‘There is just smoke rolling in.’ He said, ‘Get out of bed, call the fire department,’ and he was going around back. That’s where he went. He had the water hose going to put out the fire. We don’t know who or why anybody would want to do that to us,” Hagan said.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police arson investigators are looking into the fire.

Hagan said that most of the damage to her home is on the outside near the back.
