Local business increases work force to combat pandemic

Local News

BEAVER DAM, Ky. (WEHT) A Kentucky business is bringing in more workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, while so many other businesses are being forced to lay employees off.

WPT Nonwovens Corporation is a business out of Beaver Dam that produces nonwoven fabric products. These materials are passed along to other manufacturers to create products like air filters.

With the impact the global pandemic has had on production and general employment around the globe, WPT is looking to make a difference by increasing their work force to continue to meet the demand of their customers.

“The demand for our product has really spiked since January. Some of this is in response to COVID, and some of this has been the work we put in over 2019 to grow our business,” Vice President and General Manager at WPT Corp. Travis Robbins said.

WPT is also beginning to produce surgical masks and N-95 respirator masks.

Between the two products, Robbins says they can produce 135,000 masks per day.

“Moving forward with the implementation of the two automatic mask lines, that’s going to create an additional 25 jobs over the next 60 to 90 days,” Robbins said.

The company has already hired 15 employees in the last month and look to add more to their work force.

WPT is committed to serving the hospitals in their area and around Kentucky first. The remaining products will be distributed to other U.S. facilities.
