EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Logan’s Promise gave dozens of free cab rides home this Memorial Day weekend.
The Evansville organization offers taxi rides at least once a month.
The leader of Logan’s Promise, Charles Brown, believes it’s saving lives.
Usually, the free rides are centered around major holidays.
Brown was glad to hear there were no major accidents or arrests this weekend.
He said he’ll never be satisfied until there are zero DUI’s.
“I think we help the community if we put it out there. It’s the people who aren’t drinking and driving who are on the roads. Those people deserve to be able to drive down the street and not be in fear of impaired drivers,” said Brown.
Even if you don’t use the free taxi rides, Brown hopes this inspires everyone to make good choices about drinking and driving.
Memorial Day DUI arrests
Memorial Day weekend is generally one of the deadliest weekends for drunk driving and car accidents.
Law enforcement around the Tri-State said early on Monday, that so far, the holiday DUI arrests and drug/alcohol accidents have been on the decline.
In Vanderburgh County, Sheriff Dave Wedding said four OWI arrests have been made.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Todd Ringle said troopers haven’t made a single arrest in the Tri-State. There were only 24 arrests made statewide by ISP, Sgt. Ringle said.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Corey King said troopers have arrested three people for DUI charges since Friday evening.
