University of Evansville teamed up with Glenwood Leadership Academy for the launch of a mad hot ballroom program, performing for the first time Friday.
UE dance club has been teaching Latin music and dance to the students who performed a Cuban salsa routine in costume.
This is the first year the program has been offered.
Associate Director for Innovation and Change Erin Lewis says, “Arts education is so crucial and there’s a lot of research about how ballroom dance can really improve mind, breakdown barriers, social barriers help teach self respect just how you interact with people and trust in a partner.”
The new ballroom program hopes to host an annual dance gala and city-wide competition for kids in the community and also perform at UE basketball games.
The program is currently looking for funding.
