Madisonville girl with rare form of epilepsy gets wish granted

Local News

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEHT) – The Kids Wish Network and the Madisonville Police Department teamed up to surprise a local girl with a life-threatening illness.

Eight-year-old Laila Engel-Deppe has a rare form of epilepsy.

Laila says she wants to become a police officer when she grows up and thought she was going to be a police officer for the day.

While at the police department, she was surprised with a banner that says she is going to Disney World next month.

“It’s amazing. I love it. It just shows that, you know, we’re not the only ones that care. Everybody cares.”

“Everybody’s her friend. She meets no strangers.”

At one point, Laila was having over 100 seizures a day.

Now, she’s down to one to four a week thanks to an implant that helps prevent her seizures.
