Madisonville Police find firearms in convicted felon’s home

The Madisonville Police Department arrested a convicted felon after finding several firearms inside his home.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of Grapevine Rd. just before 5 p.m. on Thursday to a report of a man chasing another man with a long gun. Officers say they found three people at the home.

The homeowner, William Matheny, 44, said he chased on of the other people out of the house and shot at him with a BB gun. Matheny allowed the officer to enter the home to verify the weapon was a BB gun.

The officer said he found shell casings inside the doorway of a .22 caliber. The officer determined Matheny was a convicted felon.

Officers returned at 7:15 p.m. with a search warrant and found a loaded AR rifle, loaded .22 caliber handgun, and suspected meth.

Matheny was arrested and booked into the Hopkins County Detention Center. He’s charged with Possession of a Handgun by Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
