On Thursday, a man was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and causing serious bodily injury, following a crash near Morgan Ave. and Boeke Ave.
Nicholas Ryan Murphy was driving a black Chevy Trailblazer that struck two vehicles on Morgan Ave., police said.
The driver of one of the other vehicles, Pamela Bienhaus, said she was eastbound on Morgan from Boeke when she saw Murphy’s vehicle in her lane coming towards her.
She said she swerved and sideswiped his vehicle.
Murphy’s vehicle then hit a third vehicle, according to police.
Joyce Levi was driving that third vehicle, police said.
Levi suffered broken bones in her leg and ribs.
Police said Murphy appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, but he refused a blood and urine test.
While Murphy was being treated at a hospital, staff collected his urine and blood.
Police provided a subpoena for the results of those tests.
Police said Murphy tested positive for meth, marijuana, and benzodiazepines.
Police also said that Murphy never had received a driver’s license and he couldn’t provide proof of financial responsibility for the vehicle he was driving.
Murphy was transported to the Vanderburgh County Corrections Complex.
He’s charged with driving without insurance, never receiving a license, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
