MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. (WEHT) – The Wabash County Sheriff’s Office said a man led them on a chase after he was seen not wearing his seat belt.

Before the chase, authorities said 26-year-old Trevor Mitchell was initially told to leave the area of Wabash Valley College and to not drive. Authorities said he appeared to be under the influence of a substance.

After officers left the area, a deputy said he saw Mitchell driving northbound on Friendsville Ave. so he tried to pull Mitchell over.

Mitchell did not pull over and continued north, holding his hands out the window and apparently giving the deputy a peace sign, according to authorities.

While the chase was ongoing, authorities said Mitchell called 911 through OnStar and told the dispatcher to have police stop chasing him and that he would not pullover until he was home.

Authorities said Mitchell did pull over later at the intersection with E 1000 Rd.

Mitchell was arrested on charges of fleeing/attempting to elude a police officer and DUI.

He was released after posting a $150 cash bond.
