ISP: Man arrested after driving 5 children while fleeing from police

Local News

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – An Evansville man was arrested after a police chase with five children in his van. That’s according to Indiana State Police.

Police said 25 year old Andrew Glenn Caldwell of Evansville made an unsafe lane movement on July 23. When a trooper tried to stop the vehicle, police said Caldwell began driving 50 mph in a 30 mph zone, ran a stop sign and ran a red light at US 41 and Virginia. According to officials, he ran another stop light at Lincoln Ave.

ISP said the pursuit was terminated due to the high traffic in the area.

Police later determined the driver was Caldwell, and that he had five children in the van at the time of the chase, ranging from two to twelve years old.

Caldwell was located and arrested. He’s charged with resisting law enforcement, a Class 6 Felony, and reckless driving, a Class C Misdemeanor.

We’re told additional criminal charges are pending.
