EVANSVILLE, Ind (WEHT) A man at the center of one of Evansville’s most high-profile homicides is back in trouble.
Erick Schmitt was arrested Thursday night on charges of drunk driving.
According to court papers, Schmitt was involved in a one-vehicle accident near Sherman and Negley. Investigators say he had a blood-alcohol of 0.23.
Schmitt was arrested in 1998 and convicted in connection with the death of Charlie Simpson.
Prosecutors say Schmitt shot and killed Simpson during a robbery.
Schmitt was released from prison in 2012 after Simpson’s widow said she believed in forgiveness and asked that he be released.
