EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) The man convicted of a shooting at the VFW in Evansville has died in prison.
John Michael Burghardt was sentenced to 30 years after he was found guilty of attempted murder back in September.
Police say he got into an argument with someone at the VFW and later fired several shots.
During an exclusive interview with Eyewitness News, Burghardt said he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
That’s a claim the prosecutor’s office disagreed with.
Prison officials say Burghardt died over the weekend from what appears to be natural causes.
