EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – An Evansville man who police said led officers on a chase is now in the Vanderburgh County Jail after crashing into a house.

Evansville Police said officers tried to stop 28-year-old Codey Ritchison near the intersection of Morton and Maxwell Avenue just after midnight Thursday morning.

EPD said Ritchison initially stopped the vehicle he was driving, but then sped up and drove away. Ritchison eventually crashed into a home on Maxwell before trying to run away.

After officers caught Ritchison on foot, they said they found a loaded handgun in the bed of the truck he was driving. EPD said as a convicted felon, Ritchison is prohibited from having a gun.
