EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The Mayor’s Office announced Thursday a temporary resident at the Evansville Independent Self-Isolation Center has died.

Authorities say the man, who was experiencing homelessness, was in voluntary isolation while awaiting his COVID-19 test results.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner says the man tested negative for COVID-19.

The man told staff he was having a heart attack and first responders were called to the scene. The man later died, and his identification and cause of death are not known at this time.

The Evansville Independent Self-Isolation Center opened Wednesday as a voluntary self-isolation center for people experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is located in the Catholic Diocese of Evansville’s Sarto Retreat House.
