Man dies while in custody of Evansville Police

Local News

EVANSVILLE, Ind (WEHT) Evansville Police say a man died at the hospital less than ten hours after he struggled with police officers.

EPD says they were called to the Econo Lodge on HWY-41 North on Wednesday around 11 p.m. for a man who was running up to guests and frightening them.

The first officer arrived a short time later and tried to calm down Steven Bradley Beasley, 37, but says Beasley continued to fight him.

Officers called an ambulance to see if they could sedate Beasley. Before the ambulance arrived, officers say Beasley stopped struggling, and say he also stopped breathing and his pulse was weak.

EPD says officers started chest compressions and rescue breathing as well as administering Narcan.

We’re told the ambulance arrived at 11:26 p.m. and took Beasley to the hospital. Beasley died the next morning at 8:43 a.m.

Three officers that were involved were placed on a 3 day administrative leave.

An autopsy was done on Beasley on March 26 at 3:00 p.m.
