Man tells EPD he stabbed woman in self-defense

EVANSVILLE, Ind (WEHT) Evansville Police say a man called 911 and admitted to stabbing a woman, but he told police he did it because the woman came at him with a gun.

It happened on Sunday around 4 p.m. on Jefferson Ave. between S. Dexter and S. Villa.

Police say Derek Hunter, 47, told them he had been arguing with the female before the stabbing.

Once officers arrived, the victim was located with a stab wound to her stomach and was taken to the hospital. She is expected to survive.

Hunter was arrested and charged with attempted murder as well as other numerous charges.
