NEWBURGH, Ind. (WEHT) – Big changes may be coming to Lou Dennis Park in Newburgh.
The public got a preview of a master plan for the park at the Park Board meeting.
There was lots to be excited about in the plan presented by Lamar Architecture and Design, and plenty of people packed the town hall to see it.
The plan includes a clubhouse, splash pad, sports courts, fitness pods, playground and room for a water feature.
A spokesperson for Lamar said they designed the master plan with three goals: A need for its own character compared to other area parks, an active park, and a multi-generational park.
There is not yet a cost available for the master plan because it is still in the very beginning stages.
However, the board discussed completing the project in phases.
Of course, a big topic was the pool. The master plan has space for what was labeled as a “water feature.”
“We reserved a space for whatever that will be. I have suggested that we see how much money we can raise, but you can’t really put the cart before the horse,” town manager Christy Powell said during the meeting. “But a neighborhood pool in this area would fit.”
The board wants to hear the public’s input.
They will send the plan out to Newburgh residents in a newsletter and then hope to schedule a public forum for August 26th.
An interesting thing about those phases, part of phase one would be the demolition of the old pool.
