MT. VERNON, Ind. (WEHT) – A girl from a small town in Indiana had big dreams — so big that she is going to compete in December for the coveted title of Miss America.

Hillary May, also known as Miss Delaware, is from Mt. Vernon, Indiana and is back home for a few days.

Friday, she visited her old stomping grounds at Mt. Vernon Middle School to share her “Social Impact Initiative” which is near and dear to her heart.

As Miss Delaware, she gets to spread the word on an important issue that affects many people through her “Social Impact Initiative” which is mental health education.

Miss Delaware encouraged the kids to work hard for what they want in life and to not give up on their dreams.

She also shared her own struggle with depression and anxiety and assured the kids that there is help available to them if they ever find themselves dealing with feelings of depression, anxiety, or even feelings of hurting themselves.
