The mother of two babies killed in a November 2017 car crash is suing the City of Evansville and the man police say is responsible.
Frederick McFarland was speeding away from police when he crashed into a car driven by Janae Carter. Three people died including carter’s two children, Prince and Princess, and their father, Terrence Barker.
According to Vanderburgh County Court documents, Carter says the accident was negligent on the part of McFarland and Evansville Police. The lawsuit alleges EPD should have known the chase put people at risk.
The Evansville Police Department released the following statement:
“The loss of Prince Carter, Princess Carter, and Terence Barker is tragic. Their deaths were caused by the actions of Frederick McFarland, not the EPD. The investigation into the events of November 29, 2017 showed the officers involved operated their vehicles with due regard for public safety. Their decisions were in compliance with EPD policy, their training on emergency vehicle operations and nationally accepted standards on police pursuits.”
