Mt. Vernon home gutted by early morning fire

Local News

POSEY COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) — Posey County firefighters were called out in the middle of the night to try and save a burning building.

Tuesday morning shortly before 1, a home on W. 8th Street in Mt. Vernon caught fire.

Crews say the house was fully involved when they arrived, and even though it only took them about ten minutes to get the flames under control, the entire interior was gutted.

Neighbors say one person lives in the home.

They were not there when the fire started.

Firefighters say it appears the fire started in the rear of the home, possibly near the kitchen.

The investigation into how the fire started is continuing.
