MOUNT VERNON, Ind. (WEHT) – A change of events in Posey County today when a Mounty Vernon man who was scheduled to be sentenced today for a 2018 shooting decided to change his plea.

29-year-old Kyler Butler originally pleaded guilty but today, he changed his mind.

Butler was arrested in Las Vegas for one count of aggravated battery stemming from a shooting in January of 2018 in Mt. Vernon, Indiana.

Authorities say he fired about 11 shots directed at people in another vehicle.

Today in court, Butler said he wanted to change his plea to not guilty.

The prosecution objected but a judge agreed to the change.

Butler’s trial is set to start May 18, 2020.
