A new group in Newburgh is hoping to help raise funds for school lunch balances for kids in Warrick County.

Warrick County School Lunch Buddies was formed just a few weeks ago after the founder saw a social media post which talked about a child who couldn’t pay for lunch at school.

Founder Melinda Mitchell contacted the school corporation and discovered that unpaid lunch balances for all schools in Warrick County was around $4,000. She said she thought that amount was obtainable.

“I though that if the county, if people just knew that there was a problem,” said Mitchell, “that I thought our community would pull together to help those children. Help those families. And it’s a special time of the year for giving.”

Some have already stepped up to help. The group received a $1,200 check from the ladies auxiliary and sons of the American Legion Post 44 in Newburgh.

So far, the group has received nearly $2,000. If you want to donate, be sure to direct the funds to the Warrick County School Corporation.
