For the first time in 40 years, hunting and killing bobcats will be legal in Illinois. A new law allows hunters to kill one bobcat per hunting season.
Bobcats were recently removed from the state’s threatened species list. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources estimates the population to be around 5,000 statewide.
While the law takes effect January 1, the actual hunting season won’t begin until November 2016. It remains illegal to hunt bobcats until then.
