NEWBURGH, Ind. (WEHT) – The owner of a Newburgh restaurant wanted to help feed 5 families for Easter Sunday, but thanks to some generous donations, 20 families will now be fed.
Nellie’s announced the campaign on its Facebook page Friday. People could donate money by dropping it off at the restaurant’s drive-through window.
Monday, Nellie’s received a $1,000 check from Niehaus Construction.
“It feels good to be able to help people out. I’ve been in that situation before,” said restaurant owner Renee Jimenez.
“I just started thinking so many people are out of work now. It’s just horrible for everybody right now.”
We’re told the restaurant drew the 20 families’ names on Tuesday.
