No injuries reported in Spencer Co. house fire, crews spend hours on scene

Local

SPENCER CO, Ind (WEHT) – According to the Spencer County Sheriff, a house fire just south of Eureka has been “contained” and crews are wrapping up at the scene.

The sheriff says no one was inside the home on the 1000 block of County Road 850 W Sunday morning. Five fire departments responded, and at 4 p.m., crews were still battling hot spots.

Specialized trucks had to be brought in because there were no nearby fire hydrants. No injuries were reported and the family was at church at the time.

“We rushed home, we were calling every neighbor we knew to try to get ahold of our garden hoses to try to put out fire and save our property. We had people showing up but they said by that time they couldn’t even get close to it,” homeowner Sam Huggler said.

Fire officials say the cause is still unclear.
