Nursing homes face unique challenge with coronavirus

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT)- The coronavirus is posing a special challenge for nursing homes and other facilities that provide care for the elderly.

Many deaths in the U.S. have been linked to a Seattle nursing home. That has put other facilities across the country on high alert.

The director of nursing at Pine Haven nursing home in Evansville says they’re taking every measure to prevent an outbreak there.

Director of Nursing, Brian Ball says, “The CDC has put out for us to actually use the same precautions that we use in an influenza outbreak, which happens a lot more often than dealing with the covid-19. So, in this situation, we’re of course instituting hand sanitizing for everybody, preferably soap and water.”

Ball says their number one priority is keeping their resident safe.
