Ohio Co. residents react to guilty plea from former Miss Kentucky

Local News

OHIO COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT) A former Miss Kentucky, and Ohio County native, awaits her sentencing after pleading guilty to charges in West Virginia.

Ramsey Carpenter Bearse entered the plea for sending inappropriate photos to a student in West Virginia last year.

People in her home town of Hartford are reacting to the news. The court hearing was hundreds of miles away in West Virginia, but it was on the minds of many here in the hometown of the former Miss Kentucky. Some here called the whole situation sad and a mess.

“It’s sad. It’s a sad situation all the way around,” said Barbara Rock knew ramsey bearse from when they worked out at the same wellness center. She first thought of her as nice, but after the charges and guilty plea, she didn’t know what to think of her.

“I thought I knew her as really a nice person and wouldn’t have thought about something like that. It shocked me. I was shocked,” Rock said.

Our sister station WOWK-TV in Charleston, West Virginia reports Bearse pleaded guilty to one count of possession of material depicting minors in sexually explicit conduct in Kanawha County court. She told a judge during her plea hearing she sent the first photo through Snapchat to the student by mistake last year.

“I accidentally sent this young man a risque photo that was meant for my husband. The young man’s name was listed next to my husband’s name on my phone,” she said during her testimony.

The photos were found by the victim’s mother late last year and she reported it to authorities.

“It was definitely my fault, and I accept full blame for the whole situation,” said Bearse.

“I don’t think she was being phony about it. I think she really feels bad for what she did,” adds Beverly Hardin of Hartford.

Bearse now faces up to two years in prison and will also have to register as a sex offender. She’s scheduled to be sentenced next month.
