EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) A woman has died after her car slammed into the rear of a semi truck late Tuesday night, shortly before midnight.

The accident happened near Hwy. 41 and Covert Avenue in Evansville.

Authorities say 21-year-old Alyssa Keene of Evansville died at the scene of the collision.

An autopsy for Keene has been scheduled.

An accident eyewitness told Eyewitness News they believe Keene did not appear to have braked before impact.

The car’s passenger suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

The semi driver was uninjured.

Mutliple police and emergency vehicles were at the scene, and a crane was called in to lift the semi off the car so it could be removed from the roadway.

Southbound traffic on Hwy. 41 was blocked from Washington Avenue to Covert for a couple of hours, but the roadway was cleared and reopened to traffic around 2:00 a.m.

The Vanderburgh County Coroners Officer and The Evansville Police Department continue to investigate the collision
