One person dies after a tractor trailer and pickup truck collided in southern Illinois on Tuesday. It happened around 1 p.m. in Edwards County.
Illinois State Police say a 2001 Chevrolet truck driven by 62-year-old Henry E. Matz of Carmi was heading north on Illinois Route 130 about a quarter mile south of Edwards County Rd. 450 North.
Troopers say for some reason Matz crossed the center line into the southbound lane. The tractor trailer driver tried to avoid the collision by attempting to drive onto the west shoulder of the road, but the pickup ran into the driver’s side door of the semi.
Matz was pronounced dead at the scene by the Edwards County coroner. The driver of the big rig was not injured. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
