One person hospitalized after shooting on Evansville’s southeast side

Local News

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — An individual has been taken to the hospital after a shooting just before 4:00 Friday morning in the 1500 block of MacArthur Drive.

Police were initially called to the area for a welfare check.

An EPD sergeant says when police arrived, they found a victim with a gunshot wound.

Authorities say that individual was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The sergeant says the shooting may have happened as a result of a possible home invasion.

Police say a team entered the home to make sure there were no more victims inside.

The victim is not being forthcoming with information, authorities say.

EPD reports there is no suspect at this time.

Around 4:30, our Eyewitness News crew on the scene heard authorities, via megaphone, instruct individuals to, “come out with your hands up.”

One of the neighbors told us she was awakened by another neighbor beating on her door, and her dogs began barking — so she called 911.

Initially, there was a large police presence, including a SWAT vehicle.

A section of Covert Avenue was closed, but has since reopened.
