During large crowd events, you tend to see officers on horseback patrolling the area. Now the Evansville Police Department can continue to keep the public safe thanks to a new partnership.
The Evansville Police Foundation announced on Wednesday OneMain Financial is sponsoring the EPD Mounted Patrol. The sponsorship is for three years and $20,000 paid by OneMain.
Evansville Police Chief Billy Bolin says the mounted patrol enhances security at large events and helps build trust with the community.
“When those kids or people come up, the parents are with their kids, they interact with the officers on them,” said Chief Bolin. “they ask questions, they want to pet them, they want to know about them. And it’s any chance we get to stop and talk and get to know each other, it builds those bonds, and it really helps.”
Members with the Boys & Girls Club had the chance today to interact with the police department’s two horses named Blondie and Speck.
