Prescription Drug Overdoses Taking a Toll on Tri-State_-8824814561514926987

OWENSBORO, Ky (WEHT) Owensboro Police say they’ve seen a significant increase in drug overdoses this past week. OPD says various types of prescription medications appear to have been altered with an unknown substance.

Police say people had illegally obtained the medications and were taking them recreationally. Naloxone (Narcan) was needed in each of these overdoses to save the person.

As a reminder, medication should only be taken as prescribed by a doctor and only used by the person to whom it is prescribed.

Detectives with the Owensboro Police Department – Street Crimes Unit are investigating to determine the source of these altered pills, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to call OPD at 270-687-8888, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 270-687-8484.
