‘Operation Christmas Child’ to collect shoebox gifts this week

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — November 18 – 25 is National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child.

For six years, tri-state families have been part of Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse that sends millions of shoebox gifts to children in need overseas.

This year, volunteers hope to collect more than 18,000 gift-filled shoeboxes to send to children around the world to contribute to this year’s goal of reaching 11 million children in need.

During National Collection Week, some 14 drop-off locations will be open in Evansville to receive shoebox gifts filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items.

Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 168 million gifts to children in more than 160 countries and territories.
