OVC Tournament helping economically downtown Evansville

Local News

The Ohio Valley Conference Tournament kicked off Wednesday, back in Evansville for its second year.

The tournament means a lot of foot traffic coming through downtown. So businesses are hoping that when fans aren’t here filling the seats, they’re supporting local businesses.

Many of the bars downtown are hosting parties before and after the games. Some bars will hold parties for specific schools.

In recent years the city has been working hard to grow the downtown area and business owners believe this tournament is a great way to do that.

“It shows that Evansville is a place we can host big tournaments and we’re trying to provide that service for OVC. Shows we’re capable of doing that like the big city and we have room to grow and can provide service and fun and entertainment to make sure everyone has a good experience in Evansville,” said Kevin Zirkelbach, owner of Backstage Bar and Grill

The tournament used to be held in Nashville. It moved to Evansville last year.
