OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) – Business leaders in Owensboro are getting insight into hiring people with disabilities for their workplace.
The coalition for workforce development hosted about 40 business owners and managers Thursday morning.
They got guidance on the Americans with Disabilities Act, and responsibilities employers have to grant accommodations.
“Probably, the biggest misconception is that the ADA provides preferential hiring or preferential treatment to people with disabilities, and that’s not true. The ADA is civil rights legislation. It equals the playing field.”
The group also learned about employment protections and rights employers have to ensure their ability to make accommodations.
