OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) – An Owensboro doctor is facing Federal Civil False Claims Act allegations.
The U.S. Attorney’s office said Dr. Kishor Vora willfully and knowingly accepted illegal kickbacks from a lab. The allegations claims that Vora received illegal payment from National Molecular Testing Corporation in exchange for sending Medicare-reimbursed orders for testing.
Vora is also accused of ordering and submitting medically unnecessary and unreasonable tests to the lab in exchange for the illegal kickbacks.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office claims from at least May 1, 2012 to March 31, 2013, Vora and Owensboro Medical Practice, along with Owensboro Heart and Vascular knowingly submitted more than $3 million in false claims to Medicare. The complaint goes on to state Medicare claims were bill for testing that were not medically necessary.
If found liable for violations of the False Claims Act, the U.S. Attorne’ys office says Vora would be responsible for three times the damages to government healthcare programs and civil penalties.
