Owensboro fire chief to retire at end of the year

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) – Owensboro is looking for a new fire chief.

Chief Stephen Mitchell said he’s retiring at the end of the year.

Mitchell said he’s making the announcement now so the city has time to hire his replacement before he leaves.

Mitchell has been a firefighter for 32 years and he’s been the Owensboro Fire Chief for 11 years.

Earlier this week, Daviess County Fire Chief Dwane Smeathers announced he’s stepping down at the end of the month.
