OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) – An Owensboro girl is preparing for a National Academic Challenge for the Visually Impaired.
Carmynn Blakely is one of 50 students competing in the National Braille Challenge Finals in Los Angeles next week.
She qualified by winning her regional competition.
Blakely’s preparing by reading, studying and writing. She hopes to repeat memories of when she won at nationals a few years ago.
“When I won the nationals for my very first time at the nationals, I won, I was so happy. They said, ‘Straight from Kentucky, Carmynn Blakely!’ and I stood up out of my seat really fast.”
The National Braille Competition starts next Friday at the University of Southern California.
