Owensboro Leaders to Hold Special Meeting on IceMen

Local News

As the IceMen hockey franchise skates on thin ice in Evansville, Owensboro city leaders will talk about a possible move at a special meeting on Tuesday.

Last week, Owensboro Mayor Ron Payne told Eyewitness News he was talking with IceMen team owner Ron Geary about having the IceMen move to Owensboro.

Owensboro City Commissioner Bob Glenn says officials are looking at the cost of upgrades to the Sportscenter.

Glenn says it’s more cost effective to upgrade that arena that it is to improve the neighboring Edge Ice Center.

IceMen owner Ron Geary has yet to comment.

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke says he is keeping the door open for negotiations with the IceMen if the team so desires.

Mayor Winnecke also says Evansville is pursuing plans to keep professional hockey in Evansville.
