Owensboro man accused of stealing vehicle, hitting owner, fleeing police

An Owensboro man is accused of stealing a vehicle, hitting the vehicle’s owner, and resisting arrest.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office said Theotis Avery stole a vehicle from Starlite Dr., but the owner tried to stop the suspect on Dallas Ave. in front of Shivley Park.

As the owner approached, authorities said the suspect started to take off and struck the owner – causing injuries.

The injured owner continued following the vehicle with a friend west bound on Highway 56, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office located the suspect in the stolen vehicle on Highway 1554 and Highway 60 West, authorities said.

The suspect was pursued down French Island Rd. before turning onto Highway 279, authorities said.

Avery was arrested by Daviess County Sheriff’s Deputies with the help a K-9 at the intersection of Highway 279 and Highway 60 West.
