The future of an owensboro staple is up in the air after the owners of Gabe’s Tower are fined for failing to maintain their property.
City officials fined the Pennsylvania based group more than $500 for violating the city’s property maintenance code.
The building was bought back in 2013 with plans to turn it in to a hotel, but the project’s repeatedly stalled.
“It’s not where we want it to be as part of the city commission’s and Mayor’s Triplett twist revitalization efforts,” said Owensboro City Attorney Ed Ray. “That’s an important area of our commnuity, and that iconic element needs to have some progress made.”
City officials say if the fines aren’t paid, it will result in liens or daily fines against the building owners. A foreclosure has not being ruled out.
