Parolee arrested after standoff with police

Local

(WEHT)- The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office announced that Eric Nicholson is in police custody after a standoff with police Friday.

Authorities say they responded to a welfare check at a residence on the 3000 block of Bromm Road in Evansville. Nicholson reportedly missed a mental health appointment and had started breaking out windows at the residence.

Nicholson said that if law enforcement arrived at the home, he would light himself on fire. After discussions with Nicholson’s family, law enforcement left the scene to de-escalate the situation.

Around 6:00 PM, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report Nicholson was seen walking around the neighborhood and located him on North St. Joseph Avenue. Nicholson was arrested and is currently being held at the Vanderburgh County Jail.
