Local News

CANNELTON, Ind. (WEHT) – A reserve patrolman hit by a vehicle on Friday night was released from the hospital on Monday.

Daniel Bickford returned home to continue his recovery.

Cannelton Police Chief Lee Hall said Bickford “has a long recovery ahead, but we are glad he is back home.”

Friday’s accident is still under investigation.

Cannelton police officers were finishing up with Christmas parade detail and monitoring traffic when a vehicle driving southeast on SR 66 struck Bickford.

Bickford was trying to cross the highway on foot to assist with a hit-and-run investigation when he was hit.

Bickford went airborne and landed on an adjacent sidewalk, police said.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Bickford remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
