Phase One of water main replacement project complete in Haynie’s Corner

Local News

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The first phase of the water main replacement project in Haynie’s Corner has been complete.

But Evansville Water and Sewer Utility officials say this project isn’t done yet.

The purpose of the project is to move waterlines in advance of an upcoming street improvement project.

This is between Washington Avenue and Southeast 2nd Street.

Waterlines have successfully been relocated near Adams Road.

Crews are preparing to move into phase two on Washington Street.

Utility managers say they experienced some setbacks due to water delays and unexpected findings underground,

But they are still on schedule.

“We’re excited to replace a section of 16-inch water line pipe that’s probably over 100 years old. You know water lines are as old as the neighborhoods or maybe a little bit older even. So, every chance we get to replace one of those it betters our system and makes it more reliable.”

The project is expected to be completed by mid-September.
