EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Inspections for the Pigeon Creek Bridge were rescheduled after being delayed due to the risk of the bridge possibly collapsing.
The Indiana Department of Transportation said that a climbing team has been scheduled to handle the inspection early next week.
The damage the oversized truck caused Tuesday night is extensive.
It’s so extensive that engineers fear the bridge could collapse if they bring on any heavy equipment for the inspection.
INDOT crews have restricted access to the bridge and said there isn’t much more they can do until the inspection is complete.
That climbing inspection is set for next Tuesday.
This inspection will let INDOT know if they will have to replenish or replace the bridge completely.
Either way, it will be costly for INDOT.
Officials project it will cost them millions of dollars.
