WARRICK COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) — Authorities confirmed that a body was discovered near the Newburgh Lock and Dam on Monday.

The Warrick County Sheriff’s Office said the body was found in the river. Newburgh Fire and Rescue removed the body from the Angel Mounds Boat Ramp just after 1 p.m., where it was taken away by the Henderson County Coroner.

Henderson County Coroner Bruce Farmer said the body was “unidentifiable” when it was pulled from the water, and said the body was not placed in the river any time recently.

No description of the deceased individual has been provided at this time.

The body in the later stages of decomposition was transferred to Madisonville where an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

A man on a fishing trip discovered the body. He said he would not want his worst enemy to be left in the state as the body that was discovered.

This is a developing story.
