 An Eyewitness News update to a story we brought you last night. 

The search has ended for Police Chief and Gibson Southern graduate Chris Reed who fell overboard on his boat in Texas.

Rescue crews found his body this morning. 

A body matching Reed’s description was recovered this morning just before 8 A.M.  about one and a half miles North of the Texas city dike by the Galveston County marine unit.

Reed attended Gibson southern in the 1980s and was a police chief in Texas. 

According to authorities, he went overboard into the Galveston Bay on Friday because of a wake created by a larger passing boat. 

His wife called 9-1-1 around 4 P.M. to report that he’d gone overboard. 

He was not wearing a life jacket. 

Reed was also a school board member and was known for his big heart.

The school district he worked for also described him as a “beacon of light.”

Nearly two dozen agencies helped in the search for reed -which spanned over 350 miles. 

Chris Reed is survived by his wife and three children.
