Police: Man who drove into Ohio River admitted to drinking, taking narcotics

The man behind the wheel of the Jeep that ended up in the Ohio River is now facing charges.

Kristopher Goffinet, 39, is facing charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Early Thursday morning, police said Goffinet was driving the wrong way on the Lloyd Expressway when he turned onto Wabash Ave.

He then crashed through a gate and guardrail near Ohio St., ending up in the river.

He was rescued a few moments later and taken to the hospital for a back injury.

He was then arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail.

Police said Goffinet admitted to having been drinking and taking illegal narcotics prior to the incident.

He is currently being held without bond.
