Posey Co. voters could see some changes this election

MT. VERNON, Ind. (WEHT) – Instead of voting by precincts, Posey County residents may be voting at vote centers around the county.

Posey County Court Clerk, Kay Kilgore says if the Vote Center plan gets passed next month by the Indiana Election Division, residents will be voting at vote centers instead of precincts come the November election.

Why vote centers?

Clerk Kilgore says it would cut election costs nearly in half for Posey County.

The county would be downsizing from 21 precincts to 10 voting centers and that means half the staff, half the equipment, fewer employee meals, less rent, and more.

Also, counties that have made the switch have seen an increase in voter turnout.

Kilgore says, Posey County residents are welcome to submit written comments on the vote center plan to the Posey County Court Clerk’s Office at 300 Main St. Room 115, Mt. Vernon, Indiana.
