Law enforcement reminds people not to steal yard signs

Local

(WEHT) – The Posey County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook Tuesday, saying it’s aware of political campaign signs being stolen or damaged.

The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind people it is a crime to take someone’s sign, and offenders could face penalties of up to 1 year in jail and a $5,000 fine.

Tell City Police Department is reporting a string of theft involving political signage.

“We hope to reach the minority who view this childish behavior of entering another person’s property to remove political signs as a source of entertainment and political stand,” said the department in a press release. “It is our hope that our citizens demonstrate patriotism in safe and respectable fashion.”
