Possible Property Tax Increase for Vanderburgh Co.

Homeowners in Vanderburgh could soon be paying more on their property taxes.

Council Finance Chair Dan Mcginn says the homestead tax credit is too large.

Historically, the credit has been about five to six percent with a maximum of eight

Last year, the city council passed an ordinance to grant exactly eight percent, which Mcginn says cost the city almost half a million dollars.

He hopes to write a new ordinance to bring the credit back down to no more than six percent.
